100’000 books for western Lithuania people
The donation “100’000 books for Western Lithuania people” was organized for the first time from 23rd of February till 11th of March in 2004. This donation was organized by Charity and support fund of J.L. Vyneris together with book publishing companies “Alma Littera” and “Sviesa”.
During first period of the donation, which was on 23-25 of February, there were over 20’000 books given to almost every school in Klaipeda city. Schools did not receive textbooks because majority of the books were supporting materials, tests, grammar, dictionaries, and other useful literature, which will be a valuable source for pupils in building their skills.
Another 40’000 books were given to people at various stores of “IKI” grocery chain at 3-11 of March. It should be mentioned that people received a book eventhough they did not buy anything from the store.
CAO of Charity and support fund of J.L. Vyneris noted- “Due to a limited space of our premises we couldn’t organize this donation there. The idea was to give books just in streets but the weather was still cold. Thus we decided to choose “IKI” also because they foster such kind of initiatives and their slogan “IKI is closer to your home” perfectly fits to goal of our the only fund in Klaipeda region”. The final part took place in supermarket “BIG” where together with the celebration of Lithuania independence restoration day there was a concert organized.
Books of this donation affair were also given out in other towns: Silute, Palanga, Gardzai, Kretinga, and Taurage. There people firstly got books in stores and then schools received their books.
